4 Bible Verses for Your Fitness Journey
Faith is the most important thing in my life. Fitness and health are in my top 5.
As a fitness and nutrition coach, I am called to serve. I operate a service-based business! I selected these verses because I believe they can serve as guideposts in a health and fitness journey.
I battled disordered eating and poor body image for 3+ years and I wish I would have dove deeper into God’s Word during my worst struggles. Here are some things I wish someone told me —
1 Timothy 4:8 — “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.”
Fitness & nutrition are so important, but we must not let them rule our lives. Chasing godliness is the most important chase, and when we let other chases take precedence, we know it is time to re-evaluate.Philippians 3:13-14 — “No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”
The ultimate prize is not achieving your “dream body,” but rather what transcends our earthly bodies and awaits us in heaven. We must press on — for the health of this life and beyond. These verses speak to discipline, determination, and trust in the process.Ephesians 2:10 — “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.”
This one is for those bad body image days. We are God’s MASTERPIECE. How can you pick yourself apart when you truly believe this?Hebrews 12:11 — “No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening — it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.”
Getting that early AM workout in might seem painful! But how do you feel when it’s over? 99.9% of the time I’m going to guess accomplished, proud, energized, productive, strong… This may seem like a silly or trivial example, but it’s a human way to understand how discipline reaps reward. Are you to make yourself miserable every single day and say you’re disciplined? Of course not. However, growth and reward often require varying degrees of discomfort.
